1928年ドイツ作曲家、クルト・ワイルによって作られたこの曲は『三文オペラ』で使われている内の１曲。後に英語に翻訳され、エラ・フィッツジェラルド、ルイ・アームストロング、ボビー・ダーリン、ロビー・ウイリアムズなど、数々のエンターテイナーに取り上げられています。この歌詞の内容は、ナイフの使い手で殺し屋のマックが街に帰ってきたという内容から始まっています。この曲は歌詞がとても長いためエラ・フィッツジェラルドがコンサートで歌詞を忘れてしまいアドリブで歌ったエピソードは有名です。
