エチオピアは、グレゴリオ暦とは異なるエチオピア独自の暦を使用している。エチオピアの1月1日は、グレゴリオ暦の9月11日。下の祝祭日表の年月日はグレゴリオ暦である。またグレゴリオ暦からは約7年遅れであるが（エチオピアの2000年1月1日は、グレゴリオ暦の2007年9月11日）、その理由はイエス・キリストの誕生年についての見解が違うせいといわれている。
